The weekend of October 28 marked the occasion of the 2016 SoCal West Sectional Championship, the SoCal State Championship qualifier. All 43 Wildfire gymnasts qualified to State Championships, the event to be held in San Diego beginning November 18th. From these qualifiers came 35 top 6 All Around rankings, 21 of them among the top 3, having then 10 of them, finishing in AA Gold Medal winners. Wildfire Teams Level 3, 4 and 5 won their respective Championships.

Wildfire Gymnastics finished out as the 2016 Level 3 SoCal West Sectional 1st Place Team Champions. Leading the way was All Around Champion Grace Hassenplug (38.150, 1st Vault - 9.500, 1st Bars - 9.650, 1st Beam - 9.400, 1st Floor - 9.600). Grace was the highest scoring All Around Level 3 gymnast of the competition which included 145 athletes. Four additional All Around Gold Medal performances were also present, they being from 8 year old Sabrina Signorino (38.000, 1st Beam - 9.550, 1st Floor - 9.525), 10 year old AA Champion Skylar Leung, Annie Lin (1st Vault - 9.500, 1st Floor - 9.600) and Erin Chen (1st Bars - 9.400). All Around Silver Medalists included 10 year old Sydney Barnhill (37.925, 1st Beam - 9.525), 6/7 year old Emma Le (1st Beam, 1st Floor - 9.600), and 8 yer old Paige Hoffman (1st Beam - 9.525). Finishing as AA Bronze Medalists were Katherine Bayles (37.750, 1st Beam - 9.525), 8 yer old Keili Harmston (37.700, 1st Bars - 9.700) and 9 year old Leilani Joy Julian (1st Vault - 9.500, 1st Beam). Of special note, for one would be, out of 22 Wildfire Level 3 gymnasts competing, 13 placed among the top 3 on Beam, 9 of them winning Gold. Included in that was Sabrina Signorina’s 9.550, the high Beam score of the Level 3 competition including all age groups. In fact, Wildfire gymnasts did the same on Vault (Makena Jarrett - 9.650), Keili Harmston on Bars (9.700) and Grace Hassenplug on Floor (9.600).

Wildfire culminated the weekend as the 2016 Level 4 SoCal West Sectional Team Champions. Eleven Wildfire gymnasts accounted for 26 top three awards, 13 of them being Gold. Of the 134 Level 4 athletes participating, 7 year old All Around Champion, Arianna Espinoza (38.400, 1st Vault - 9.500, 1st Bars - 9.600, and 1st Beam - 9.700, 1st Floor - 9.600) was ranked first highest scoring among them. As well, Arianna posted the highest individual event scores of the Level 4 competition on Vault, Beam and Floor! Additional Wildfire AA winners include Presley Wickman (37.800) and 12 year old Ailani Tran (37.775) Notable successes reflect also, the efforts of 12 year old AA Silver Medalist, Addie Anderson (1st Vault, 1st Beam - 9.650, 1st Floor) and 10 year old 3rd place finisher Brianna Taurek (37.675, 1st Vault - 9.500, 1st Beam - 9.625).

Team Wildfire Level 5 finished the 2016 SoCal West Sectionals as Team Champions. Wildfire’s 12 competing Level 5’s accounted for 27 top three awards, 10 of them being Gold. Of the 55 Level 5 gymnasts competing in total, three Wildfire gymnasts ranked as the top three of that group of 55, including every age group. The top scoring gymnast was Kaitlyn Tran (38.650!!, 1st Bars - 9.725, 1st Beam - 9.900!, 1st Floor 9.650). Providing a most outstanding performance, Kaitlyn posted the meet’s Level 5 top scores on three events, they being Bars, Beam and Floor. Following Kaitlyn as part of the top three were Brianna Nguyen (38.475, 2nd Vault - 9.525, 2nd Bars - 9.625, 2nd Beam - 9.725, 2nd Floor - 9.600) and 13 year old AA Champion, Amanda Acosta (38.000, 1st Vault - 9.550, 1st Bars - 9.475, 1st Beam - 9.550 1st Floor - 9.425). Amanda finished her sectional with the high Level 5 Vault score of the weekend.
