Team Wildfire Levels 4, 5 and 6 culminated its 2009 season this November 13 - 15, the event being the SoCal State/ South Section Compulsory Championships. The Town and Country Resort and Hotel in San Diego served well as the competition venue.
77 top three individual finishes were achieved by Wildfire gymnasts during the weekend as represented by 30 gold, 24 silver and 23 bronze medals. By meet's end the Wildfire compulsory program finished the year by ranking each of its three teams, Levels 4 through 6, at top two positions. Alone in THAT distinction, the Level 4's finished as the 2009 State Champions while our Level 5's and 6's each placed second.
Wildfire gymnasts also accounted for highest number of All Around Champions by any one team from Orange County, second in the state. The results additionally indicate Wildfire as having All Around Champions representing EVERY level! Notable is that we were one of just two programs in the competition to achieve this.
Of the 334 Level 4 athletes participating, All Around Champion Caleigh O'Keefe produced the highest score of the day that being 38.225. Giving strong support to the effort here were 1st place All Around leaders Sydney LaMar, Kiana Zolina and Abbie Dillard. Team 4 emerged from this season undefeated as it has in three of the past four years. In fact Wildfire's Level 4 teams have won EVERY meet entered during those past four years save but one second place final.
Wildfire gymnasts did well enough to equal but two other teams in attaining the most number of Level 5 Southern State All Around Champions. Alyssa Rhoads led the way as our leading All Around winner. Helping to secure Wildfire's corresponding 2nd place team position (replicating last year's finish) were additional AA champions Nicole Katzaroff and Logan McBain.
Fronting Wildfire's Level 6 second place team standing was All Around Champion Madison Pinkard. Jessica Cleary and Hanna Duarte join Madison as our top three Team 6 contenders formulating by the end of the three day championship event a most successful conclusion to a most well executed compulsory Levels 4, 5 and 6 season.
